I’ve been thinking about making a post like this for a long time now. And really, I could have picked any of several recent events as an equally worthy stimulus. It just so happens that I’m on a week’s vacation and have a little more time to write.
Thursday I read this. It’s news, I guess, but not in the least surprising. If you voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and this news surprised you or provoked you to change your opinion of Donald Trump or convinced you not to vote for him this year, fantastic! Welcome to the club. You owe the rest of us a huge apology. But then, you’ve owed us that huge apology for so many other things the Trump administration has done I could not list them all in a single post.
Still, I’m glad you’ve come around. Anything you can do to make up for the past would be wonderful. Helping to vote Donald Trump and his Republican enablers out of office is a good start. We will likely still disagree on many policy issues. I can live with that. The fact that you’ve recognized supporting Trump was a big mistake is a sign that your BS detection kit is still operational and you are willing to use it even when it hurts. That’s a huge gain.
